Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Squad Versus India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI team following scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
