An 15-year-old youth has been judged to life behind bars with a lowest period of 16-year period for the homicide of another pupil Harvey Willgoose during a lunch break.

Deadly School Incident

Mohammed Umar Khan stabbed the deceased, who was also fifteen, through the chest with a hunting knife at the learning facility in February.

The presiding justice revoked the name suppression order on the killer during the punishment phase at the courthouse.

The victim's mother said she felt "as if a heavy weight has been removed off my shoulders" following the judgment.

The two youths had beforehand disputed over social media in the time leading up to the lethal incident.

The mother remarked she was glad the base duration had been established higher than the required minimum of 15 years.

"My parent has been receiving medical treatment through the legal process and he just couldn't hold on any more," she expressed.

Circumstances of the Attack

Prior to the homicide on the third of February, Khan and the victim had chosen different positions in a different conflict between two other students.

Surveillance video from the occasion of the knife attack revealed the assailant coming near the deceased in the outdoor area briefly after midday.

Bystanders detailed a scene of "disorder", with individuals "running, shouting all around" during the aggressive incident.

Court Process

During the legal proceedings, the accused claimed he had not intended to murder the victim or cause him serious harm, stating he could not remember what had transpired.

The state countered that he had "intended to demonstrate he was formidable" and "understood exactly what he was doing".

"You acted as the instigator and... you behaved in distress and rage at what you regarded to be his treachery of your bond," stated the justice during sentencing.

Aftermath

The school released a statement conveying that the pupil was "greatly mourned every day by the complete educational community".

Police officials emphasized the catastrophic consequences of bearing blades, commenting that a "momentary choice" can forever alter various existences.
